Is Camp Discovery The Place For You?
Do you have a passion for working with individuals with special needs? Are you caring, passionate, and fun-loving? If the answer to both of these questions is yes, then Camp Discovery is the place for you!
Before you are hired, the following has to occur:

- reference checks
- criminal background check and sex offender check
- an interview by video chat (sometime between February and May)

Note: all positions require at least 18 years of age and previous experience working with special needs individuals OR recent college attendance with a major related to special needs, teaching, or nursing.
Camp Discovery 2026
Week 1: June 7-12 | Week 2: June 14-19 | Week 3: June 28 - July 3 |
Week 4: July 5-10 (Junior Week - ages 7-26 only) | Week 5: July 12-17 | Week 6: July 19-24
Positions We Are Looking For
Counselors
Each counselor will look after 2 to 4 campers each week. Every camper will be different, so their care will be different based on their needs. You may need to help them get dressed, eat, or even use the bathroom.
Lifeguard
Lifeguard will need to be certified for shallow water. This person will be serving as a lifeguard at our pool half a day, assist with other classes half a day, and is in charge of a night activity.
Outdoor Recreation Teacher
Outdoor Recreation Teacher will need to plan outdoor activities for individuals of all abilities, such as softball, fishing, water games, soccer, and relay games. They will teach half a day, assist with other classes half a day, and are in charge of a night activity.
Music Teacher
Music Teacher will need to plan activities involving music and movement for individuals of all abilities. They will also be in charge of our weekly talent show. They will teach half a day, assist with other classes half a day, and are in charge of the talent show.
Art Teacher
Art Teacher will need to plan and carry out 5-8 art projects for campers, including tie-dye shirts. They will teach half a day, assist with other classes half a day, and are in charge of a night activity.
Kitchen Staff
Kitchen Staff will need to help prepare our meals. They work in two 6-hour shifts and will commute to camp daily. If you are applying for this position, please inform us of any health issues/problems which could hinder your performance or pose a public health problem.
Nurses
Nurses need to hold an RN or LPN license and will tend to all medical needs of the campers and staff, including basic first aid and dispensing of medications daily.
Apply For A Position
- All staff, except Kitchen, will be expected to stay on camp grounds- arriving Sundays and leaving Fridays.
- Teachers must turn in lesson plans every week. They also help improve the care of our campers by watching how counselors work and give them helpful tips.
